-- James Cobb is competing in his first-ever National Championships this weekend with his Eastern Section teammates from Brooklyn, N.Y. His wife, Darcy, is making her seventh trip to Nationals this weekend, but unlike her husband, she has come to the desert on a business trip.

Darcy works as a USTA League Manager at the national office in White Plains, N.Y., and often gets to travel to the National Championships to help run the tournaments as the national office representative. This weekend, she will be treating James like any other competitor in the tournament, but she admits to watching more of the tennis action than she usually does to see her husband's team in action.

The couple met while they were both attending college at the University of Oklahoma and will be celebrating their 37th wedding anniversary next month. Tennis has been a part of their relationship since the beginning, and they have also gotten their three children involved in the game.

When their kids were young, Darcy began competing in League tournaments, while James would take care of the kids. As their kids got older, James got back into competitive tennis after seeing how much Darcy enjoyed it and even played on a mixed doubles team with Darcy.

Darcy began working at the USTA national office this past June after spending five years working with the Eastern Section. Prior to that, she had volunteered for USTA League for 12 years.

When she isn’t working, Darcy still enjoys playing tennis with James in Brooklyn, where they play out of the Prospect Park Tennis Center in the winter and the Knickerbocker Field Club in the summer.

The goal for James and his team is to try to win a National Championship this weekend, while Darcy remains focused on making sure the tournament runs smoothly. She wants to ensure that the people playing in the tournament have a great experience and enjoy their trip to Nationals.

James is certainly enjoying his time at Nationals and also has a great appreciation for what goes on behind the scenes to make the event come to life.

Additionally, he mentioned that he has enjoyed having Darcy’s support this weekend, and that being together at the National Championships is a very special experience for both of them.
