Pensacola hosting USTA Pro Circuit event on clay

November 12, 2010 04:02 PM
Jordan Cox.
The Pensacola Sports Association, in conjunction with the U.S. Tennis Association, is currently hosting the Pensacola Futures Championships - a $10,000 USTA Pro Circuit men’s event - at the Roger Scott Tennis Center.

Twelve clay courts were recently constructed at the Roger Scott Tennis Center and this event is the first professional tournament held there on clay.

Pensacola last hosted a USTA Pro Circuit event in 2004 on hardcourts before Hurricane Ivan caused the tournament to be relocated. This tournament is part of the overall economic recovery efforts in the Pensacola, Fla. region.

Heading into the weekend in Pensacola, the 2009 Wimbledon boys’ finalist Jordan Cox from Duluth, Ga., has advanced to the doubles final and the singles quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals, Cox will face No. 1 seed James Lemke of Australia.
