2011 Year in Review: Tennis On Campus

USTA Tennis On Campus celebrated another successful year in 2011. Here are some of the highlights:

1. The Palmetto Dunes Tennis Center in Hilton Head, SC set the scene for the 2011 Fall Invitational.  A total of 270 students from 32 teams participated with the University of Virginia defeating Duke University.  Both teams will advance to the 2012 National Championship taking place April 12-14 in Cary, NC.  "The venue provided for an amazing weekend filled with exciting and competitive tennis," said Glenn Arrington, National Manager, USTA Tennis On Campus.  "Off the court, participants enjoyed the relaxed southern charm and a chance to learn about future career opportunities in tennis as they networked with representatives from both the Tennis Industry Association (TIA) and the Professional Tennis Registry (PTR)."

2. The Reffkin Tennis Center in Tucson, Ariz. was the site of the 2011 Spring Invitational in which 32 teams from 23 schools competed for a bid to the 2012 National Championships. For the third straight year, the University of California - San Diego emerged victorious.

3. Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C. was the home of the 2011 National Campus Championship. Sixty-four co-ed club teams competed for the chance to be crowned National Champions. UCLA continued the recent run of first-time champions with a victory over the University of Florida. There have now been five different champions in the past five years.

4. The National Championships also served as the perfect venue to honor those who have made significant contributions to the Tennis On Campus program on their respective campuses while also making a difference in the local community.  Ross Friedman from Towson University was honored as the USTA Tennis On Campus Leader of the Year.  And Lone Star College – CyFair was honored as the USTA Tennis On Campus Club of Year.  Applications are currently being accepted for the 2011-2012 awards – submit one today!
