Making The Team

October 4, 2011 12:34 PM
No-Cut Tennis keeps kids in the game in high school, no matter what skill level.
With 80 girls on her team, Coach Donna Stauffer has developed drills and play that enable large numbers of players to be on the court with no one sitting on bench!  Following her example, other schools in the area have adopted the no-cut program model, enabling numerous prep squads to compete against each other in Varsity and Junior Varsity matches.  It’s important to Coach Stauffer that each high school girl has the opportunity to be a part of a team and play a sport that can be played the rest of her life.

Jessica made the JV team and is her mom’s expression of appreciation for her daughter’s assignment:

"I just wanted to write and thank you for putting Jessica on the J.V. squad this year. If it weren't for your wonderful "no cut" prep squad, she would not be playing at the level she is today. Jessica had only played a little tennis previously, but decided she would take a chance on trying out because of the "no cut" squad. After playing prep last year, she found she really enjoyed tennis. She has worked hard since the end of last season to try to make it onto a higher squad. It is so nice to see your child decide to reach higher and achieve her goal. Again, I believe your program deserves great credit. Had she been cut from the tennis team, I don't know that she would have pursued it any further. Being part of a team, no matter what your level, can inspire great things. Thank you for taking the time to run your tennis program as you do, and I hope you are able to continue with the "no cut" prep squad. I hope the girls have a great year and thanks for all your time and hard work!"
