Jr. Team Tennis Nationals - By The Numbers

October 31, 2010 03:51 PM
500 feet worth of signage and banners were hung during the Jr. Team Tennis National Championships.
Almost 2,000 tennis balls were struck during the three-day tournament.
This work of art was one of 170 different henna tattoos done at the Player Party.
The USTA Jr. Team Tennis 18U National Championships is four days full of excitement, great tennis and lots of stuff.

It’s the collective effort of USTA staff, volunteers, players, coaches, parents, and the city of Surprise that make this tournament a success. While most of the action this weekend takes place on the courts, you might be surprised at what happens behind the scenes.

Here’s what you probably didn’t know about the 18U Junior Team Tennis National Championships – by the numbers:

On the Courts:

88 matches played
3,262 total games played (through Saturday)
1,944 balls used
720 bananas consumed
2,400 photos taken by USTA staff

During the Player Party:

150 snow cones made
192 lbs of candy handed out
170 tattoos printed

Miscellaneous

Most miles traveled to Surprise - 3,017 (Caribbean Team)
Average high temperature - 87.5
Hotel rooms used - 189
Boxed lunches handed out - 939
800 handbooks printed
500 ft of banners hung
826 credentials distributed
720 ft of string used in restrung rackets

When you consider the 14U tournament is held one week earlier, which more than double the above numbers, it’s easy to see how much effort, detail and time goes into hosting a successful event in Surprise.
