Opening ceremony
The 12th annual USTA Tennis On Campus National Championship is underway as the top club tennis teams from around the country have gathered in North Carolina at the Cary Tennis Center for an unforgettable weekend of tennis.  At this year’s Tournament, 2010 champs UC Berkeley, will battle it out against the remaining 63 teams to determine who has what it takes to bring home the title of Tennis On Campus National Champion.

Hometown Teams: Representing the great state of North Carolina at the Championship this year are hometown teams Duke University, North Carolina State University and the University of North Carolina. With all three teams vying for a spot in the Championship, it will no doubt be a bitter battle to the end. *Check out tomorrow’s story to see how our hometown teams are doing.

High Noon Update: As the brisk weather moves out and the temperature heats up here in Cary, so does the competition. Close matches, such as the supertiebreaker between Boston College and the University of Wisconsin, have set the pace for the weekend. With players breaking for lunch and rehydrating for the next round of play, there is no question that this year’s Championship will showcase the most competitive teams and exceptional talent.

Game, Set, Match: As an eventful Day 1 comes to a close each of the 64 teams begin to gear up for bracket play tomorrow. The level of competition has been unlike any other as early standouts begin to emerge.  Returning powerhouses the University of Central Florida, the University of Michigan and the University of Illinois have each swept their respective competition and remain undefeated heading into tomorrow’s match play.
