In 2011, there were 8.5 million children, mostly in public schools, involved with organized after-school activities in over 26,000 qualified programs that keep kids active and safe. Organizations such as the After School Alliance are advocating for more after school investments at the federal and state levels.
Lawmakers are considering several pieces of legislation that could help determine the future of 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) - the chief federal funding stream for before school, after-school and summer learning programs.

Longtime champions of after-school programs from both political parties worked together to introduce the Afterschool for America's Children Act (S. 1370). This bipartisan bill would strengthen 21st Century Community Learning Centers by supporting innovation in before school, after-school and summer learning programs.

"This bipartisan legislation is the right approach to make today's after-school programs even stronger, using lessons learned over the last decade to create the next generation of after-school and summer learning programs. Quality after-school programs keep children safe, inspire them to learn and support working families, and we need to make it a high priority to ensure that every student has a safe place to go with enriching, educational activities after the school day ends."

Tennis enthusiasts should sell their programs to their community. Physical fitness needs are not going away. Funding may be available to facilitate your tennis programs at various levels.
